Seven
teachers received “Harold LeMay Opportunities Fund”
grants through the Bethel Foundation. Recipients are:
- Susan Melton, Kapowsin: $310 to buy specialized dictionaries
to assist students with vocabulary and spelling.
- Bruce Adler, Bethel Jr. High: $1,000 to sponsor an international
cultural fair for eighth graders – a culminating project
for students to present family trees, pictures, charts, videos,
etc.
- Glenda Clark, Kapowsin: $1,120 to purchase items for a Washington
state history artifact trunk. The items – authentic clothing
and artifacts from the 1800s – are intended to give children
the opportunity to experience the pioneer era.
- Stacey Grewell, Naches Trail: $1,285 to host a student heritage
festival for first graders. The festival will be a culmination
of a year-long study of student heritage and world cultures.
- Kim Meline, Spanaway Jr. High: $1,250 to sponsor two field
trips to Puget Creek to learn about salmon restoration. Students
learn about plant and animal life and assist in volunteer efforts
to restore salmon habitat.
- Tonya Narramore, Bethel Jr. High: $2,500 to purchase a technological
tool called Classroom Performance System(CPS). It’s a realtime,
interactive wireless response pad technology that allows teachers
to collect data and check student learning on an ongoing basis.
- Sarah Houtz, Rocky Ridge: $3,850 to buy a computer, projector,
scanner and digital camera to help students expand their technological
skills.
